The Action Intelligence (AI) Framework emerged over 5 years (2010-2014) in response to the need to respond more effectively to complex humanitarian and international development challenges. It is interdisciplinary and draws on decades of research in sociology, information science, complexity, design and the cognitive and management sciences.
The result is a framework that allows students, managers, policy analysts, researchers, scientists, monitoring specialists and planners to gain insight into complex issues that involve human action. It is designed to bring back to the analysis and planning table modern ways of working with data and information previously dismissed as ‘too difficult’ to work with (and often buried in unstructured sources like reports, media feeds, recordings, blogs, papers, etc.)
Extensive field application of the AI Framework in areas as diverse as desertification, coastal erosion, resource conflict, water management, deforestation, renewable energy, transportation, agriculture, aid transparency and even the country-wide monitoring of climate change agreements has demonstrated its value as a complementary approach to traditional tools for monitoring, evaluation, analysis and planning.
This site is dedicated to providing reference information, case studies, links to articles, tools and research materials, and continuing the evolution of the AI Framework and its practical application to complex human-centred action. It is sponsored and supported by Jerri Husch (PhD) and David Hagan (PGradDip), the co-creators of the AI Framework.
